featuring a Sneak Preview of “Sordid Lives: The Series”

Acclaimed Texas Writer / Producer / Director Del Shores and Actor Jason Dottley to present their creative journey bringing Shores’ Award Winning Works to stage, film and television at the MAC Sunday June 1.

DALLAS, Texas, 07-MAY-2008 — The MAC presents an Exclusive Evening with Del Shores and Jason Dottley featuring a Sneak Preview of the upcoming episodic television show, “Sordid Lives: The Series” at the MAC on Sunday June 1. Shores and Dottley will present their “creative journey” in bringing Del Shores’ Award Winning Works to stage, film and television. A highlight of the evening will be the screening of preview footage from the television series that will air on LOGO beginning July 23, 2008. This evening is a benefit to raise monies for the MAC General Operating Fund.

"I am thrilled to come back to the MAC for this special night.  One of the highlights of my career was the run of "Southern Baptist Sissies" at this theatre, in the city where the play is set," stated Shores about his upcoming Dallas visit.

The MAC is excited to welcome Del Shores back to Dallas. Shores’ play “Southern Baptist Sissies” became a sold-out hit even before opening night in a multi-week run at the MAC in 2001. “Sordid Lives” Shores fourth play opened in Los Angeles in 1996 and ran for ten sold-out months. In 1999, Shores wrote and directed the film version of Sordid Lives starring Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia, Leslie Jordan, and Beth Grant. The film became an overnight cult classic sensation. Ivor Davis of The New York Times Syndicate wrote: “The Birdcage meets the Bible Belt--and the result is the most hilarious comedy of the year.”

The Benefit Evening will be comprised of two parts, the presentation and screening to a limited audience in the MAC’s Black Box Theater followed by Q&A session with Shores and Dottley. A gala Cocktail Reception honoring the special guests will follow the theater presentation. Shores, a long time fan of the MAC is graciously contributing “one of a kind” memorabilia from Sordid Lives for an auction that will take place during the Cocktail Reception. Continuous screening of the Series Sneak Preview will run in the theater during the Cocktail Reception to accommodate those who are unable to obtain tickets for the entire evening. Attendance to both parts of the evening is limited due to venue size.

The doors of the MAC will open at 5:00 pm with the Theater Presentation and Screening beginning at 5:30pm. The Cocktail Reception and Auction will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets to the MAC benefit event are $50 for the entire evening including both the theater presentation and cocktail reception and limited to 100 persons. Tickets for the Cocktail Reception and Auction that begins at 7:00pm are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 214-953-1212. The MAC is located just minutes from downtown Dallas at 3120 McKinney Avenue.
